The Bread of Life - Jesus Christ

Thursday, June 30, 2011

In the Gospel of John chapter 6 we have the verses that reveal Jesus as the Bread of Life.
This takes place the day after Jesus fed the 5,000 with five barley loaves and two fish. Jesus perceived that the people had been following Him because of the miracles He had done, but that they were much more interested in the occasion of His feeding them.
Verse 15 says "Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make Him king by force, withdrew again into the hills by Himself."
The following day He and the disciples were at Capernaum. Those who had been fed followed them across the lake.
Were they seeking Jesus because they believed He was the Christ, the very Son of God who came to die for their sins; did they understand the supernatural power shown in the healing of the sick, the release of the captives, the forgiveness of sin. Had they no fear of God as they witnessed the feeding of 5,000, that only a special miracle by God's Almighty power was evidenced through this man of God. Did they just see a free meal, a man who could provide for them - was this the answer to their selfish prayers, a life of leisure.
In this great sermon of Jesus, He perceives all this and exhorts them to things beyond their bellies, to things spiritual and everlasting. Let us listen to the Master.
Verses 26-63.
"26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 ¶ And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
41 ¶ The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 ¶ The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Caper'na-um.
60 ¶ Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?
63 It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
We see here Jesus trying to bring sinful, selfish, carnal men to an understanding, a realization of things spiritual; to remind them that they had originally been created in the image of God, made for communication with God. He wanted to make them rise above their fleshly appetites.
Christ teaches from the great lessons of the Old Testament that the things spoken of and the events in Israel's history spoke of Him, and prefigured what He was here to do.
God giving the people manna from heaven was a mighty and gracious blessing of that without which the people would not have lived. So great was God's love and mercy.
Jesus tried to explain that the gift from God that He Himself was - is such a gift - full of power and might, and mercy and graciousness and love - and so much greater - that this Bread from Heaven endureth unto everlasting life.
How clear Jesus makes this Gospel message. He is the living bread. We are to eat His flesh and drink His blood. Many have trouble with these almost cannibalistic sounding words. Many of the disciples then and there went from Jesus. Many today do not like, nor understand Communion and avoid it continuously - and never bother to find the truth.
Jesus teaches us in simple ways that we might understand, and yet so many cannot see beyond the flesh.
Jesus said "It is the spirit that quickened; the flesh profited nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."
If you were starving and someone offered you a loaf of bread, how long would you question the brand, how old it was, or what you could do to get it. How long would you hold it in your hands, and look at it and smell it. What good would that do? Would it stop you from dying? In order to live we must eat - we must take the bread into our mouths and chew it, and digest it - as it becomes a part of us it is used for life. Everyone understands this.
If you were dying in your sins, and someone offered you forgiveness, yes life eternal in the living Bread from Heaven which is Jesus Christ, how long would you question the denomination, the social advantages and disadvantages, or what you had to do to earn such a gift (as if a gift had to be earned)? How long would you think about it; how long would you go to church and hear about it, hold the Living Word in your hands, and look at it from all angles? What good would that do? Would it stop you from dying in your sins? To live, Jesus clearly tells us, we must take Him into us - we must open our hearts to Him - we must make Him a very part of our lives, and this every day - He must be our daily bread - that we might have everlasting life, beginning now. He said that whosoever accepts His life of sacrifice, His death for us on the cross "dwelleth in me, and I in him." We are to read these Holy Scriptures for they are words that speak of Jesus - "they are spirit, they are life." They feed our spirits.
Is this not the Lord's teaching through the Last Supper - our communion.
As Paul writes in I Corinthians 11:23-26.
23. I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:
24: And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25. After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come.
It is only by Christ's death that we have eternal life. We are never to forget it. Paul goes so far as to describe the Church in I Corinthians 10:17 thus "For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread."
One question that continues to arise is - "I can't understand all that, so shall I wait until I can?" We really don't understand all of anything. Seldom do we wait for understanding to try anything. A starving man does not question all the ingredients and processes of baking and mixing before he takes the bread and eats it.
Another problem was shown in the verse where they asked Jesus "What shall we do?" Even today many think that they must earn salvation, that they must be good enough or go to church enough to get into heaven. Jesus answered them, and us - "This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent." It is God's gift. Truly it is an insult to God and His gift - which is Bread - living, life-giving, Heaven-sent Jesus Christ that while we were yet sinners and enemies of God He offered up His sinless and Holy Son for us. There is no eternal life separate from the Person of Jesus Christ.
In faith, believing, as a little child, we must accept this Bread as broken, that it is Christ's broken body that pays for our manifold sins. That this living bread is our daily portion and sustenance for our spiritual life. We must read of Jesus daily, we must pray to Him daily and build each other up in the faith by witnessing to our living relationship with our Lord.
If any have seen and heard of this bread but never partaken of Him - listen to the words of Jesus:
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come into him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
Jesus Christ wants to be a part of our daily lives. This is the depth of His love. He says "I will come in."
We cannot but adore and praise a God so merciful - that He would do all this for us and still more that He wants to give us Himself - yes - and this indeed is life eternal. To be raised at the last day - and to be given the hidden manna to eat in that day.

Mexican Food Inspired Crock Pot Recipes

In Mexico, it is base to cook a piece of beef or pork over a low heat to break down the fibers and make it as tender as possible. Using a crock pot is an easy way to use this slow cooking formula to your advantage. You can set up the meal before you leave for the day and come home to a tasty Mexican meal. Replicating the slow cooking done in Mexico lets you recreate all the great flavors you have come to expect from authentic Mexican recipes, yet using a crock pot lets you use the convenience available today so you don't have to tend the formula all day long.

Slow cooked dishes can be served with refried beans, Mexican rice or a salad made of raw fruit or vegetables. You could even put the meat and sauce into a tortilla if you like. You could take the meat in this formula and shred it instead of slicing it if you wish. Recipes from the crock pot can be served any estimate of ways.

Meat Loaf

This formula is not spicy, but it is good to remember that not all Mexican recipes are. If you prefer it to be spicy, naturally add in a cayenne or habanero pepper into the pot when you start it up. Remember that seasonings tend to become muted as they blend in the crock pot, so you may need to adjust your spices before serving. You can even switch out vegetables and use what you have on hand. Potatoes, squash and other vegetables would work just as well. Likewise, you could trade out the beef for a pork roast or some chicken or rabbit. Rabbit is a traditional meat that has been eaten in Mexico for generations and it benefits from the moist, slow cooking in the crock pot.

Grocery Shopping Cost Of Living Shopping Prices

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

The cost of living has become painful. One trip to the gas station and grocery store will clearly put you in touch with this pain. As painful as the $4.00 per gallon for gas is, it represents less than 3.5 percent of the family budget. Their food purchase is almost 4 times as much in the family expenses coming in just under 13%.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Consumer Price Index for the past year indicates the five grocery items that rank at the top of the inflated price list that you are now paying at your supermarkets. Number One on the list is FLOUR, increased by 37%. Not only does this increase affect the bag of flour you purchase, but every item that is made using flour....breads, bakery goods, etc.

Number Two on the list is EGGS, increased by 34.8%. Again, this goes beyond just the dozen or two of eggs that you buy for your family. The bakery goods and breads are also affected. The third most inflated priced item at an increased rate of 29.2% is SWEET PEPPERS (green, red, yellow). The GOOD NEWS here is that peppers are one of the easiest plants to grow with very little work. I will address home gardening in the next newsletter for all your summer salad needs.

The fourth most increased inflated price goes to MILK. MILK is up by 23.1%. This is one the most essential purchases on the grocery list for a family of any size with growing children. Number 5 on the list, up by 21.6%, is DRIED BEANS. This may be the most insulting of all, because it represents the most basic and last resort for the poor to put something on the table for the family to eat. One of the other world's basic food staples, RICE, has gone up by 10% in the last month alone. Costco and Wal-mart have recently limited the quantity of RICE that you can buy. Families will need a cost of living calculator to keep up with these flour prices, egg prices, and milk prices to figure out all the changing weekly grocery prices.

If you have visited our website and read the "BeSmart....ShopSmart....Shopping Tips", you know that we want you to save 40% to 50% off your weekly grocery shopping trips, including meat and high priced items such as coffee or laundry detergent. Of course, this is possible when you use your store loyalty card, store and manufacturer coupons, and take advantage of the BUY 1 GET 1 FREE OFFERS. We are very concerned about your bottom line savings on your groceries with these inflationary increases on some of the most basic food staples.

Being a good "Scout" you need to "Be prepared". First, study your local grocery circulars. Become price conscious as to what the marketplace is asking for these particular items as well as what your cupboard and refrigerator is lacking. Secondly, read the ad papers thoroughly to OPTIMIZE YOUR SAVINGS. For example, at a chain drug store, reading through their weekly circular....in smaller print that the rest....I discovered that if I bought the brand name skin lotion at the regular price, I would receive the same brand name liquid soap for FREE -- $3.99 value.

Another discovered sale at Safeway/Dominic's was getting FREE Safeway brand pasta (sale priced at a $1.00 per/box) when you purchased a 26 oz. jar of a brand named Spaghetti Sauce. The spaghetti sauce was reduced to a sale price of 3/$6.00....that's just $2.00 a jar, and less the free pasta....becomes a $1.00 item. This becomes a $1.00 MEAL, and represents an overall savings of $3.25 per each box of pasta and jar of sauce. NOTE: PASTA is one of the most flexible items you can have in your pantry for making simple dishes quickly, or creating a great meal of leftovers. Whole grain pasta is recommended for people with diabetes.

Use the ad circulars to plan your meals when you shop. I have advocated planning your menu around the SALE ITEMS in their circulars. Make sure you mark out what day of the week their shopping advertisement begins and ends. Some start on Wednesday and end on the following Tuesday. Others begin on Thursday and end on the following Wednesday. You could miss out on a sale item of importance by not knowing this.

For example, in their sale circular a brand name roasting chicken was on sale for 69 cents/per lb. at the local grocery store. Unlike the major store chains, this local grocery store week begins on Wednesday, not Thursday. So, if you didn't pay attention to this fact, and wanted to purchase the roasting chicken on Wednesday before the sale ended, it would have been TOO LATE. The new week began, the sale was over, and the price increased by 80 cents to $1.49 per/lb. The same 5-lb. Roasting Chicken went from $3.45 to $7.45 -- a lost savings of $4.00 per a 5lb. Chicken. That's ONE GALLON of GAS. PAY ATTENTION and SAVE!

Don't let image fool you that you are going to get the BEST PRICE because a store is known for its LOW PRICES. A recent story of comparative shopping prices revealed the following prices for a gallon of Skim Milk

•$2.69 at Aldi (discount store)
• $2.99 at Costco (saving club/membership needed)
• $3.99 at a local supermarket
• $4.49 at Wal-Mart

Who would have thought that? That's an image buster for Wal-Mart always low prices advertisements! And don't forget about looking at your local drug store such as CVS or Walgreens for some of these grocery items. Recently I was able to purchase 2- 64oz. Walgreens Brand Orange Juice for $3.69 compared to other grocery store offers of 2/$5.00, and 2 dozen eggs for $3.00 ($1.50 per dozen) compared to $2.89 per dozen elsewhere.

When your comparative shopping list results in SAVINGS at different stores, the discussion of the cost of gas comes into play. Is it worth it??? I usually suggest you map out a circular trip to include as many of the stores as possible on your list. This way you can max out your SAVINGS by getting as many of the sales items as possible with one shopping trip. With a single stop to save $5.00 on a can of coffee, meat, laundry detergent, or ice cream you will have covered the cost of a gallon of gas for your vehicle.

I believe in buying in BULK when often used family products are on sale. If you have the capabilities, utilize your freezer. When shopping for Milk on Sale, search the back of the shelf for the latest possible expiration date. If you choose to freeze milk, remove 8-to-12 ounces to allow for expansion during the freezing process. You can also freeze eggs in freezer bags; just crack them open into the bag for later use in baking or for scramble eggs. AVOID waisting Money and Food...Rather than throw out eggs or milk that are about to expire make a cake or pudding.

For additional savings, investing in a bread machine would help cut the cost of bread and provide you with Fresh Homemade Healthy Bread daily per your creative ingredients. Put the ingredients in the bread machine and in a period of three-to-three and a half hours, FRESH BREAD for less than a $1.00 a loaf. The bread machine will pay for itself in a short time with current store bought bread prices.

One U.S. Agricultural Department study estimated that 25% of the food bought by consumers and restaurants is wasted or spoiled before it can be served. TV commercials advertise storage bags that will preserve the life of fruits and vegetables. If you are going to spend the high prices for your fruits and vegetables, then it might be wise to spend $10.00 for these reusable bags. They will pay for themselves over a short period of time compared to the price of lost/spoiled produce.

For your meat purchases, avoid paying for bones. At $10.00/lb. every pound of bones will cost you ten dollars for the throw away. Or, you might choose to wait until its on sale. Many dollars are saved by using your store loyalty card when it comes to your meat purchases. Buy Sale Price Meat in larger quantities, cut in portions, and FREEZE. Meat provides flexibility in one's menu planning. First meal is hot, freshly cooked. Leftover portions can be served as cold as sandwiches, or cubed and added to a fresh salad. Any other cubed leftover meat can be added to soup. THAT'S FOUR MEALS from one piece of meat.

Speaking of soup, homemade or store bought, you don't have to waste the crumbs from the bottom of the bag of chips, or Doritos ("breakage" in food industry language). Smash the remaining crumbs in the bag, and empty the crumbs on top of the soup when ready to serve for added flavor and fiber...no waste.

To eat healthier and save your time cooking, I recommend purchasing a Ronco "Showtime" Rotisserie. Put the meat on the spit or in the basket, set the timer, and let it cook away, allowing the fat to drip away. Place vegetables in steamer tray on top of the unit. When the timer goes off, take the meat out, and serve. This is a Very Nice MOTHER'S DAY GIFT that will KEEP ON GIVING. But remember: you'll have to figure out what you want to do with your free time while everything is cooking. It can cook up to a 15 lb. turkey. I have had mine for over six years.

Again, read your grocery ad circular carefully. Try to take advantage of the first opening days' "Sale Specials". Some stores run specials within the store that will provide FREEBIES or MONEY BACK for your NEXT SHOPPING VISIT. Last month Safeway/Dominick's had a $10.00 kick back for your next visit on a purchase of $30.00 or more of certain listed brand name products ...that's a 33% savings right there. Many of these items weren't ON SALE. This week they have two $5.00 kick back offers, the first is instant at the check out counter, the second is for your next visit.

Lastly, keep your eyes open for offers to add to your Government Stimulus Checks or Tax Refund Checks by Grocery Stores or Department Stores. Jewel (owned by Albertson) is offering a 10% Bonus if you use one of these CHECKS to purchase a Jewel-Osco Gift Card in increments of $300 up to $1200. Limit one offer per household. That's a FREE $30 to $120 depending on the size of your check. Details are available in the store. Using these Be Smart...Shop Smart...Shopping Tips can add another 40-to-50% to this free money opportunity. Make Your Money Work for YOU!

So BeSmart.....ShopSmart.....Save Money.....Be Happy!

Food - What To Do With Leftovers

Leftovers. suitable or a pain in the backside? Well, it depends on who you ask. For the man who doesn't have time to cook and looks transmit to just opportunity up the fridge and pulling out yesterday's meat loaf, it's a Godsend. But for the man who's fridge is stuffed to the gills and he doesn't have a place to put the stuff, it could be a total nightmare, especially if you're the type of man who doesn't like to throw out food because of all the starving habitancy in the world. And then of course there is the boredom of eating the same thing night after night after night. Well, your leftover problems are a thing of the past. Below, you will find a few tips to make leftovers a minor question at worst.

For those who don't have the room in the fridge to put the leftovers, especially after a big party, there is one very straightforward solution. Give the food away. If your guests enjoyed your meat loaf then there is no reason why they can't take some of it home with them. In the case of things like leftover sheet cake, which is always a question after a party, you plainly cut it up into smaller blocks and give it to habitancy to take home. If they don't want it, no problem. Having cut the cake up into smaller blocks, this will make it easier to store the cake in the fridge, which will be requisite when you're dealing with whipped cream frosting.

Meat Loaf

If habitancy aren't thrilled about taking your food home with them, you can always try the cake trick with the food itself. Just because you had one dish of meat loaf and an additional one dish of baked ziti, doesn't mean that you can't put what's left of them both on a plate together. Don't worry, they won't fight. This will save quite a bit of room in the fridge especially if you have a amount of things you can consolidate.

For those of us where room in the fridge is not the question but we just don't want to eat the same thing night after night, there is a solution to that question as well.

Riddle. When is ham not ham? When it's ham. If that sounds confusing, let me explain.

Let's say you're throwing a graduation party for your daughter and you decree to have a bunch of deli platters. You order sufficient food for 50 habitancy but only 35 show up. At the end of the night you find out that you have sufficient deli left over to start your own delicatessen. What do you do?

Well, if you've got sufficient room in the fridge, bring it home in plastic bags. Stuff like turkey, ham and roast beef will have to be used quickly. Things like hard salami will stay longer so there's not an immediate rush to eat it.

Now to reply the riddle of when a ham is not a ham. Deli ham is great with mustard on rye bread. But did you know that you can also take it, put a microscopic cinnamon on it and surround it with pineapple and throw it in the oven? Guess what? When you take it out, it tastes nothing like the ham you had on rye with mustard. You just made yourself a new meal. Add some veggies and you're set.

What about the roast beef that's also great on a sandwich? Don't want to eat roast beef sandwiches for a week? No problem. Go to the market, get some gravy devotee and throw that roast beef in the oven. Won't taste anyone like the roast beef you had the day before.

There are many ways to get creative with leftovers. You just have to have a microscopic imagination.

How to Make a appetizing Farmer's Ham Loaf

Combining ground ham and lean ground pork into a ham loaf makes a very tasty treat. One of my late aunts used to make yummy ham loaf and this method is pretty close to what she made. She was a delightful aunt who could turn any kind of leftovers into a yummy meal and this is how her ham loaf came to be. This method has a sweet and sour sauce that only adds to the yummy flavor of this loaf. The method calls for 1/2 cup of Splenda brown sugar blend which makes it favorable for diabetics. If you don't need to watch your sugar intake, you can use 1 cup of brown sugar instead. This is an updated version of an old, old recipe. This method is very favorable for diabetics, too.

Farmer'S Ham Loaf

Meat Loaf

2 lbs ground ham

2 lbs ground lean pork

1 cup fine dry bread crumbs

2 eggs

1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl combine the ground ham, ground pork, and the bread crumbs. In a small bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the milk. Add the milk, egg aggregate to the meat blend. Mix together well and form into a loaf. Place loaf in a pan.

Sauce:

1/2 cup Splenda brown sugar blend

1 tbsp prepared mustard

1/2 cup cider vinegar

1/2 cup water

Place all the sauce ingredients into a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring to blend and melt the Splenda blend. Pour the sauce over the ham loaf. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, basting with the sauce frequently.

Enjoy!

What Wines to Serve for dinner

The old normal rules - red with red meat, white with poultry and fish - still apply, but there are exceptions, qualifications, nuances of intensity, tartness, dryness. Wine can alter the taste of food, food the taste of wine. Food and wine should heighten each other, not fight each other or cancel each other out.

Wine does not go well with chocolate, citrus, vinegar, artichokes, peppers, sweet corn, barbecue sauce, ketchup. If you do serve wine with these foods, make it a rosé, Gamay, or Zinfandel. Here are few suggestions:

Meat Loaf

Shellfish: Sauvignon Blanc, Chablis, Chardonnay, white Burgundy, Muscadet, Soave, sparkling wines.

Increasing the Amount of Fiber in Your Child's Diet!

Sunday, June 26, 2011

Serve more fruits and vegetables:
Foods that come from plants, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, are the only sources of dietary fiber. Experts recommend aiming for at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. All produce isn't equally rich in fiber, though. Some of the standouts are artichokes, avocados, dried fruits, okra (not exactly a favorite of most kids), baked potatoes with the skin, pears, and carrots. Concentrate on the ones your child likes.

5 Easy Steak House Secrets - Eat Great Steak At Home

Nothing beats a great steak. Celebrity chef steak houses are the hottest new cafeteria trend; but you don't need to spend a fortune at a steakhouse. Effect these 5 easy tips, and make great steak at home every time.

1. Leave your steak in the fridge for a concentrate of days before you cook it. Steak houses brag about dry aging their beef, why can't you do the same? Unwrap the plastic from the meat and leave it exposed to the air for a concentrate of days. Simply occurring enzymes will tenderize the meat and retell a great beefy flavor.

Meat Loaf

2. Want a medium rare steak. Cook it from frozen. Now you don't want to plunk a solid ice cube of steak on the grill, but if you leave your steak partially frozen, you'll end up with a deep brown caramelized crust and a juicy medium rare inside. Steak houses have grills that get a lot hotter than yours does. So holding the meat a tiny freezing gives the steak time to create that deep flavorful brown, before overcooking the inside.

3. Salt your steak. Use a tiny more salt than you think you need. It won't taste too salty, it will taste wonderful. Salting prior to cooking extracts some of the amino acids in the meat and these, when heated, will brown up and help you get that great steak house crust.

4. Dry the face of the meat before cooking. Again, you want to get that deep brown crust, and the drier the meat face the better the crust.

5. A dry steak is disappointing, so let the meat rest for a few minutes before serving. You don't want to cut into your beautiful steak and have all the juices run out. The juices, during cooking, rush out toward the hotter exterior. Letting the meat rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting into it lets the juices get reabsorbed throughout the steak.

That's all there is to it. Effect these 5 easy steps before your next steak dinner and taste the difference.

Recognizing Healthy Recipes

Saturday, June 25, 2011

What makes any recipe healthier than another? Apart from cakes and cookies being less healthy than roasted vegetables and salads, how can you know when a recipe is going to be more in line with healthy eating than a similar recipe? It all begins with a look at the nutritional contents. You will probably find that healthy diet recipes are far more likely to provide specific information about sodium, sugar, and fat than a more "standard" recipe. If a recipe doesn't give portion sizes and calorie content you can probably assume that it won't fall under the healthy cooking category at all.
Why is it important to make any distinctions of this kind? If you are trying to lose weight, or if you need to control your intake of certain ingredients you should make a habit of finding the recipes that are healthiest for you to consume. For instance, if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition you have probably been warned about excessive sodium consumption and fat in your diet. It takes just a few seconds to glance over a recipe to determine if it is going to give you too much of a bad thing or if it is at acceptable levels.
Additionally, if you begin programming yourself to assess the contents of the foods you eat you are going to automatically begin eating in a way that is much healthier as well. For example, let's say you found a great meat loaf recipe that uses ground turkey, all kinds of herbs, and is a really good choice for your needs. You might instantly over-indulge and end up eating three servings. If, however, you have thoroughly reviewed the recipe, you will already know how many slices are supposed to come out of the one pan and you will be able to properly gauge the right amount for your dinner plate.
It is interesting to note that you should pay even stricter attention to things such as quick diet recipes because these might use short cuts that can sabotage a person's dietary requirements. For example, a wonderful beet soup for summer months might call for canned beets that pack a hefty amount of sodium per serving. If you are a recipe reader you would see that you could substitute sodium free beets in order to protect your needs and still enjoy the tremendous health benefits, flavors, and colors, of such a popular warm weather dish.

Easy Recipes for great family Meals

The daily dilemma: what to cook for dinner. After years of cooking for my family, I can de facto say that there have been times when I lost my creative will in the evening meal department. Now that I have a picky four-year-old to reconsider in the equation, the dilemma has increased to approximately disaster size. He has a list of about 5 items that he'll eat and will not vary easily. In other words, I'm having a rather difficult time seeing easy to prepare meals that will satisfy the whole family. What to do, what to do?

For most busy families, time is the enemy. They plainly don't have adequate time to prepare whatever more than something pre-packaged from a box. I've been there, done that, and I can also say that it gets old, is unhealthy and eventually someone in the house will start to complain anyway. The request here is: Is there a way to couple salutary eating with convenience?

Meat Loaf

Why of course there is! making great meal planning a priority does not have to cause groans from the cook. There are new methods of meal establishment and easy to fix staples available these days that can make you say 'ahhh'. In fact, getting the kids complicated in the kitchen has become another novel way of getting picky eaters to de facto put something other than Pbjs in their sweet tiny mouths. My own tiny guy found a method in one of the cute kid cookbooks I bought him and with his help we made evening meal and he 'ate it!' Wow, I'm a believer.

So, what are some easy recipes for great house meals? Here are a couple of recipes that I've made in the past month that were hits with everybody in the house from grumpy dad to doubting daughter and picky pint-size pouter:

Pepperoni Pizza Quesadillas

8 - 10 inch flour tortillas

2 ½ cups cheddar cheese (I just buy the 10 oz pre-shredded)

1 cup salsa (I tend to go with mild since it's a meal for the whole family)

½ cup chopped green olives, drained

1 container of sliced pepperoni

Preheat oven to 400 F. Place 2 tortillas on a cookie sheet and top each with cheddar cheese. Put another tortilla on top of each cheese covered tortilla and bake for 5 minutes. Take out of oven and press down on tortillas with a spatula. Top with salsa, olives, some more cheese and pepperoni. Put back in oven and cook for 5 minutes more or until the edges are brown and crispy and the cheese is melted on top. This is great with a garden salad.

C.J.'s tiny Meat Loaf

1 egg

1 lb ground beef or turkey

1 cup oatmeal

1 onion, grated (I use onion flakes to save time, tastes great)

1/3 cup ketchup

¼ cup Parmesan cheese

1 tsp salt

¼ tsp pepper

Extra ketchup for the tops

Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly spray 8 muffin cups with cooking spray. couple ground meat, oatmeal, onion, egg, ketchup, Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper in a bowl; mix well with your hands or a spoon. Divide the meat composition into 8 balls and put each into a muffin cup; press down lightly. Put more ketchup on the tops of each tiny meat loaf. Bake for 30 minutes or until no longer pink inside. Replacement to paper towel covered plate to drain and then serve with mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots...yum!

These recipes have gone over great in my house, and I bet they'll be devoured well in yours too. making house meal establishment and house meal time a priority will encourage children to fabricate salutary eating habits - an prominent key to good health as adults. By making meal time less stressful you can focus on the joys of spending time together instead of the hassles of establishment meals. Every member of the house can enjoy evening meal time again.

Bread Machines Buying Tips

Friday, June 24, 2011

Bread machines are used for making bread and are used in place of conventional ovens. Apart from simply baking they can also knead, mix and preheat the bread dough before baking it. The machines usually have bread pans with paddle in the middle which are enclosed in small dome shaped ovens. These machines also have timers and different settings for different breads like the rye, whole wheat or white bread etc. They come in different loaf sizes and the standard model can accommodate loaves of 1.5 pound.
There are different kinds of machines which include the standard machines and the automatic machines. While using the standard machine, the user has to add the ingredients manually. Some of the models even have timers which signal the user to add the next ingredient. The number of features is less when compared to the automatic models. However, you can have a precise control over the working of the machine. The automatic counterpart can be preset to add the ingredients at particular times. The mixing speed can also be set. There are some models which can be programmed for certain recipes like pastries, cakes etc. Such models usually have more than two pans.
If you are considering buying a bread machine for your home, you have to consider several factors. It is always better to buy a less expensive simple model first and then move on for bigger ones later on. First, consider the size of the loaf you want according to the number of family members. Go for small ones if you are baking for two. If you need bigger ones check the 2 pound size. Also check the type of bread you want to bake. Some bread machines can bake different types of bread where you have crust control options as well like crispy, chewy, light, dark, soft etc.
Look for additional settings like jam settings or meat loaf settings etc where you can also add ingredients at a later stage. It depends on your baking plans as to what features will be necessary for you. Bread machines also come with warmers and timers where you can program to start at a particular time. You should also be able to warm the bread whenever necessary. The most important aspect is cleaning. Check whether the cleaning part can be handled comfortably or not. Machines which are dishwasher safe are comfortable to use.

Baking bread at home has become an increasingly popular choice for many people. It provides a healthy and scrumptious alternative. For more information about bread machines please visit http://www.breadmachinesinfo.com/.

Bbq Pork Meatloaf Au Gratin

What is more family than meatloaf. This dish has been around so long, and never gets old. I love meatloaf and so does my family. This method is so good and easy and it has wonderful flavor. The ground pork instead of beef is awesome and the expanding of the Bbq sauce and the cheese makes this dish a real winner.

This method was from an old friend of my Mothers. She was tired of production basic meatloaf with ground beef and decided to try to make it with ground pork. It was an instant hit. Once she added the cheese and the Bbq sauce, it became a family staple. What I enjoyed about this method the most is that I could get a taste of Bbq even if it was winter time. Smelling the pork bake in the oven with the smokey flavor of the Bbq sauce made me think of grilling on the outdoor patio. What a treat.

Meat Loaf

Here is the recipe:

2 lbs. Ground beef
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg
2 cups soft breadcrumbs (4 slices bread)
1 small onion, grated
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup Italian dressing
1 tablespoon mustard
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cup barbecue sauce

Mix ground beef with cheese, egg, onion, salt and pepper and bread crumbs. Form meat into a loaf. Bake in a 325F oven for 1 hour; pour off drippings. Make your Bbq sauce and pour over the meat, then sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup cheese. Bake 30 minutes longer.

Let the Meatloaf rest for 15 minutes before slicing, this will keep the meat from breaking apart and loosing all of it's juices. This dish is great served with a side of peas and carrots. I also like to make some fresh mash potatoes to go along side. Make extra Bbq sauce and use for dipping, your family will thank you for it.

recipe For Meat Loaf - Presulta - Christmas Traditions to Start With Children

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Most families serve original food that pertains to their inheritance while holidays. I am Scandinavian so we serve Scandinavian fare. Scandinavians are known for their smorgasbords and that is what I remember most as a child. Christmas traditions, to start with children in mind, is ialways the best conjecture for making a fine meal that they will remember and carry on straight through generations. Presulta is a method for meat loaf in a way and I share it here below with you.

Christmas recipes and traditions for Germans have similar meals so this method could be determined for them as well I think.

Meat Loaf

I commonly serve smorgasbords on Christmas eve, keeping it light for digestion and the following day. My Mother-in-Law serves a breathtaking Scandinavian supper on Christmas day. One of the thngs she prides herself in is "Presulta", a meat mixture, kind of a method for meat loaf. It is put into a wooden form and served with vinegar. Yup, It's true, vinegar.

recipe For Meat Loaf - Presulta - Christmas Traditions to Start With Children

The method for this meat loaf called Presulta has veal in it. Ahh me, I must confess that bothers me a lot! I have boycotted veal for forever. I just don't like the way they raise those minute calves, ya know? I confess though that on Christmas day I do not refuse this holiday fare for which my Mother-in-Law works so hard to prepare. Can it be make without the veal and substituted it with regular beef? I don't know. I think it is worth a try and maybe someday I will.

"Presulta"

2 pounds Pork butt
2 pounds Veal Shank
2 pounds Veal

Seasonings:

1/2 Tbls. Peppercorns
3 large bay leaves
1/2 Tbls. Allspice
4 tsp. Salt

Boil meat together in a large pot with the seasonings. Water should be enough to cover the meat. Bring to a boil and simmer for two hours or until tender. Let cool in liquid. Cut into one by one inch pieces. Leave some fat on the pork but not the veal. Line loaf pans with muslin which is large enough to fully cover top of meat once folded over. Divide meat and juice into the pans, (there should be enough juice to just cover the meat) cover the top with the muslin. Place heavy weight on top to press and ageement this method for meat loaf called, Presulta.

This should be made any days before serving.

Serve cold. Cut into slices and serve with a dish of white vinegar to sprinkle over the top. It is the vinegar that makes the true difference.

Sandwich Recipes You Can Sink Your Teeth Into - Savory Meat Loaf With Sweet Ketchup Bacon Topping

Today's economy demands that we stretch and make the most of our food dollars. Leftovers that end up in the trash can might as well be your hard earned food dollars staring back up at you. Cook foods that make great use of leftovers. One of these foods beloved at my house is delicious savory meat loaf, which makes terrifying sandwiches the day after.

It is my idea that meat loaf sandwiches taste better if the loaf is made the day before. If I am making the dish specifically with plans for sandwiches, I have to reserve the sandwich portions prior to serving the meal because this main dish disappears fast at our dinner table. If there are no leftovers, I cannot serve meat loaf sandwiches.

Meat Loaf

I have often made two loaves at once, served the dinner meal, and preserved the second loaf specifically for sandwiches. The main meal normally consists of homemade mashed potatoes, the meat loaf, brown gravy, English peas, soft white bread slices, and sweet iced tea.

Sandwich Recipes You Can Sink Your Teeth Into - Savory Meat Loaf With Sweet Ketchup Bacon Topping

My house likes to spread their plates with a layer of mashed potatoes, a second layer of sliced meat, and a third layer of brown gravy. They like to drag the bread slices through the brown gravy. After the evening meal, I slice any leftover meat into sandwich size portions, pack in a plastic container, seal, and refrigerate.

There are dissimilar ways to get ready a meat loaf sandwich depending on your taste. I spread soft white bread slices with a compassionate layer of mayonnaise. I add a light layer of prepared horseradish along with some mustard. I sprinkle the slices with fresh ground black pepper. I very slightly warm the meat slice, getting it just to room temperature. I place the meat on the sandwich, and that's about it.

Some population prefer it without the mayonnaise. Some folks like to add a slice of tomato and some lettuce. My house sometimes adds crisp bacon slices, more sweet ketchup, or even a light layer of warmed mashed potatoes.

If you need a good hearty meat loaf recipe to start with, I'll post a handy link for you at the end of this article. You do not have to be a gastronome cook to make a great meat loaf sandwich. It just takes a few minutes of your time.

There so many dissimilar sandwich fillings you can make. This particular sandwich is a hearty one that certainly satisfies a hunger and tastes great. After writing about meat loaf sandwiches, I want one now, so I am off to the freezer to thaw out some ground beef.

Spoon into a large baking dish and bake, covered, at 160ºC for 1 hour 30 minutes. Add more water and stock if necessary, and the sultanas. Cover and bake for 30 minutes longer or until very tender. If using, swirl in cream just before serving.

25ml oil

2 onions, chopped

500g minced beef

15ml Worcester sauce

Stand for about 10 minutes or until juices are re-absorbed, then unmould onto flat, warmed serving dish.
Beat mashed potato with hot milk, butter and egg yolk until fluffy and creamy. Seasno, then swirl over the whole loaf, top and sides, and return to the oven at the same climatic characteristic for 15-20 minutes. Serve with a green vegetable and pumpkin baked in the oven at the same time. Serves 6.
