Using Lipton Soup Packets to Enhance Everyday Dishes

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Ever since I discovered Lipton soup mix years ago, it has been a regular staple in my cupboard. I use it on almost all beef recipes. Whenever a recipe calls for onions or bouillon, I substitute the soup mix. I usually don't add extra salt, because it is already in the soup mix. One envelope per two pounds of beef seems to be a good ratio.

Here are some ideas for using Lipton Soup packets in your cooking.

Meat Loaf

Ground Beef Dishes

Brown two pounds of ground beef. When it is cooked thoroughly, sprinkle one envelope of soup mix over it and add about 1/2 to 1 cup of water. Cook for about 5 minutes longer, stirring the soup mix in well. Just cook long enough to have the water absorbed.

*Serve the ground beef over noodles or rice for an easy main dish.

*Mix with your favorite sloppy joe sauce and serve on buns.

*Mix with spaghetti sauce and pour over cooked spaghetti or rotini.

Meat Loaf and Hamburgers

The boxes of soup mix have recipes on them from Lipton. I especially like the meat loaf recipe and the hamburger recipe.

For the meat loaf, I follow the recipe, making these two changes. Instead of the water that is called for, I substitute canned evaporated milk. Instead of bread crumbs, I add dry oatmeal. This makes a delicious meat loaf that everyone raves about.

With the hamburgers, again I follow the recipe on the box, substituting barbecue sauce for ketchup. It adds a little extra zip.

Slow Cooker Roast

Brown a two-pound roast in shortening in a skillet. Place in crockpot. Add one envelope of Lipton beefy onion or beefy mushroom soup mix, sprinkling it over the top of the roast. Pour a jar of brown, au jus, or mushroom gravy over the meat. Fill the jar with water, replace the lid and shake it up. Then pour this over the roast. Set the crockpot on low and cook for about eight hours. You may need to gauge this and add more water, but usually you don't need a lot of water for the crockpot.

Baked Steak

I prepare baked steak in a similar way as the roast.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown two pounds of steak in shortening or oil in a skillet. Transfer to a 13 by 9 cake pan.

In a separate sauce pan, mix one package of dry soup mix, two cans of mushroom soup, and two soup cans of water. Heat and stir for a few minutes till it is mixed well. Then pour this over the steak in the cake pan. Cover with foil

Bake for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or until steak is thoroughly done and tender. Check every so often to see if more water needs to be added.

Easily Substitute Fats in your Everyday Diet

Thursday, April 21, 2011

Lets face it there are a lot of non-fat and low fat food substitutions on the market today, and also lots of substitutions that are not hard to figure out such as the cheeses, low fat cottage cheese compared to full cream cheese and tuna packed in brine instead of oil.

Below is a list of tips for lower-fat substitutions that will please you and also help you in your entertaining. You can apply these substitutions in your everyday diet whether it is at work, home, or dining out.

There are many ways to achieving a reduced fat diet. Here are some examples:

Breakfast

· If you like butter or margarine on toast, only

have it on the last slice you eat.

· If you don't feel like a solid breakfast, have a

fruit smoothie.

· Mix up your own cereal from two or three types

and give your creation a name.

Lunch

· If you eat lunch away from home, plan it the

night before. Make sandwiches

before you go to bed.

· Try some thick vegetable soup with a fresh

bread roll to dip.

· Invest in a cool bag to keep your lunch fresh.

Dinner

· Try oven-baked potato wedges with a salsa

topping.

· Go for fresh pasta with a quick tomato and

basil sauce.

· for dessert, have a piece of fresh fruit with a

yoghurt topping.

Snacks

· Salsa dip with pretzels

· Plain fruit loaf

· Yoghurt

· Vanilla dairy custard.

Before a workout

· Small glass of fruit juice

· Banana and Custard

· Half a slice of toast with jam.

After a workout

· Fruit/canned fruit

· Wheat Bites

· Rice cakes with honey.

At Work

· On your desk - bottle of water or glass to use

at the water dispenser.

· In your desk - piece of fruit, small pull-top can

of baked beans/creamed corn/stewed fruit.

· Bring a few ingredients from home to be

combined at work.

· Keep some cutlery where you work.

On a Plane

· Order a special meal when you book your

ticket. You'll usually get served first.

· Ask for an extra roll or two.

At the Hotel

· Take your own favourite cereal and reduced fat

milk.

· Ask that the foods be removed from the snack

bar. Eat your own low fat

nibbles.

Take-Aways

Burger Bar - Plain grilled burger, skim milk milkshake.

Pizza Parlour - Gourmet pizza with lots of veggies, go easy on the cheese.

Kebab House - A little meat with a lot of salad.

Sandwich Bar - Salad sandwiches/Rolls.

Club - A little meat, heaps of mashed/jacked potato and veggies, pasta/rice.

Indian - Lots of boiled rice, tikka, plain naan, dahl soup, raita.

Chinese - Lots of boiled rice, chop suey, steamed dishes, plain noodles.

Italian - Tomato-based dishes, plain bread.

Suggestions in General

* Record your food intake to identify problem areas. E.g. emotional eating, unwanted hunger cravings, over-eating.

* Pay specific attention to the times when you over eat.

* Try to avoid severe food restriction (like fasting, low calorie dieting).

* When measuring your progress, monitor body fat levels, not weight, and throw the scale out.

* Aim for slow fat loss (one pound / week)

In conclusion, for the majority of us entertaining can be difficult owing to the food being too rich and loaded with calories but there can be a way by lowering the fat and maintaining the taste and this can be easier than you think.

Hidden Sodium in Your Everyday Foods is a True Health Hazard!

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Sodium is a silent Killer. Especially to those with Hypertension, Heart Disease, and other Health Issues. Do they print this on the Label? Of course not, they figure what you do not know will not hurt you. But that is completely false.

Over 2.5 years ago I was forced to go on a Sodium Restricted Diet for Health reasons. I have lost over 50 pounds in those 2.5 years without even trying, just changing the way I ate. So many people are into Carb Counting, Fat Gram Counting and Calorie Counting.

What if I told you a Friend and I had compiled a list of Recipes that included NO Sodium in the food preparation and the food tasted just as good as if it had all the bad ingredients in it? Well we have, and we are going to be releasing this book soon. What does this book do for you?

Improves Your Overall Health (MY Cholesterol was at the Normal levels and prior they were at dangerously high levels)
Healthy Weight Loss (50 Pounds in 2.5 years)
NO Need for a High Blood Pressure Pill anymore ( I will talk more about that)
Healthier Eating Habits
Recipes your whole Family will love and never guess they are missing Salt!
And many more Benefits that the Book will Cover

It is a Little more Costly to eat this way, but I bet it is cheaper than Jenny or other Diet Plans.

You will need Fresh Veggies, Can ones contain a lot of Sodium. The next time you are in the Grocery Store look at the Labels for Sodium Grams. The Object is to keep it at 600 MG per meal. 1800 MG a Day. It really works. If you follow the instructions in the book and what I am claiming does NOT happen (BUT YOU MUST FOLLOW THIS 100%) .

Why spend all that money on Guru Diets when a Simple Low Sodium Diet will do the exact same thing plus improve your overall Health? Now back to my getting on the Sodium Restricted Diet, (Low Sodium Free) I did have High Blood Pressure, But not one single Doctor said reduce your Sodium intake. Honestly even if they had of I would not have done it. Sodium had to cause me agony before I tried it; it is like the fear of the Dentist. When it hurts badly enough you really will go. I was in bad shape due to an inner ear condition and Sodium had become a Poison to me.

In the past 2 years we have created recipes like:

Fried Chicken and Wings
Hamburgers With All The Trimmings
Soups, 100% FRESH!
Chinese Dishes
Spaghetti
Hot Dogs even with Chili
French Fries
Veggies (Must be Fresh or Frozen)
Meat Loaf
Stuffed Peppers
Potato Salad
Basically any food that you could eat before has been duplicated and when the book comes out try it on your family, The odds are they will never know and you will be doing everyone a favor but eating a Healthier Way
A Salt-a- holic may know as they consume so much salt I am surprised they have not dried up.

This is a true account of what happened. This is an add-0n Nov 22, 2008 and total weight loss is 80 to 90 pounds. Sodium is a deadly and silent killer, it also aids in unhealthy weight gain. Many recipes are now using sea salt in place of regular salt (sodium content is much less), so you can even use this for cooking, try your local health food or Organic food store to buy some. I have changed my idea of a book to a series of Articles on the subject with a recipe in each one. So be on the look out for this free series of healthy eating Articles. At least one per month, for Christmas will be a special Article with a couple recipes to make your families Holidays much healthier. See you then.
